How To Prep, Prime And Get Your Mask On
/We tested, tried and applied some of our favorite masks and these are our favorite products that will completely hydrate all the areas on your face. Glow on, girl!
Primer
Perhaps you never thought that it was important to actually prep your skin before you apply a mask… That’s ok, because we’re going to teach you how – with Origins Maskimizer Skin Optimizing Mask Primer ($22). Lightly spritz a light coat over freshly cleansed skin and pat the mist into the face. Then, apply and experience the full potential of any mask of your choice. This primer contains a Marine Algae Complex, which helps hydrate and lock in your skin’s full moisture potential, creating perfectly prepped skin.
Two-in-One Mask
If you’re always running out of time and find masks too time consuming, then you should opt for the 100% Pure Red Wine Resveratrol Scrub + Mask ($35). Yes, this means red wine is certifiably good for you both internally AND externally. Resveratrol is an anti-aging ingredient and super strong antioxidant found in the skin of red wine grapes. So, applying it to the skin is like a rich, hydrating treatment with the ability to fight the signs of fine lines and wrinkles. Also, 100% Pure is 100% vegan and natural. Apply the mask to a wet face, gently massaging in the product in a circular motion. Rinse, and enjoy your completely cleansed and hydrated skin.
Facial Mask
This is not your ordinary face mask. Unlike sheet masks that are super thin and immediately bind to the face, the 100% Pure Ginseng Collagen Boost Facial Mask ($7 for one) takes a little massaging and head tilting. But once you do, you won’t be disappointed. This thick “hydrogel” mask comes in a long plastic tray; not folded up like most sheet masks. Once you fit it on your face, I recommend slightly tilting your head back. I propped my head up on a pillow and watched some mindless TV for 20 minutes. Once you take the mask off, your skin will feel as if you’ve hit the fountain of youth jackpot. Why is that, you ask? Because the masks are comprised of 95% organic aloe water and 5% plant cellulose, which means your face is 100% hydrated and moisturized.
Sheet Mask
The sheet mask obsession is still strong, and with pur-lisse’s new Blue Lotus Collection, you can choose between two different exciting options. If your skin is in need of a kick in the pants and a bit of a renewal, then the Blue Lotus + White Tea sheet mask is your perfect choice. And for those in need of full hydration and some extra TLC, opt for the Blue Lotus + Seaweed sheet mask (add pricing). These masks are great – you leave them on for 15-20 minutes, take them off, then pat in the remaining product on the face like a serum. Your skin will feel super quenched, as if you’d just spent the day at a spa.
Leave-on Mask
For those of you who have a little more time in your skincare routine, or just like the feeling of a mask hardening on your face, then you must try Kiehl’s Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Masque ($32). This antioxidant-rich mask is perfect for the winter as it helps get rid of dead skin cells, leaving the face radiant and rosy. The Turmeric Extract helps brighten the skin while the Cranberry works as an exfoliant. Leave the mask on for five to ten minutes, then rinse. Skin will glow, glow, glow!
Lips
Even lips can get some mask action with Patchology’s FlashPatch Lip Gels ($50). These clever lip masks, if you will, are filled with potent peptides and antioxidant-rich ingredients, which are essential in getting those smackers fully hydrated. The gels are shaped into over-sized, Jagger-esque lips, and you wear them for five minutes. Afterwards, your lips will be soft and plump. After just a few treatments, the lines on my lips started to diminish so you will get fast results!
